Introduction to sound ceramics
With Nómada Cerámica
An encounter between clay, sound and fire. An immersive experience to discover the world of ceramic instruments inspired by the ancestral cultures of the Americas. Over two days, participants will build their own wind instruments, explore their acoustic principles and follow the process of clay being transformed by fire.
01 / Day 01 · Building instruments
Saturday 14 November. The first day will be dedicated to building and modelling ceramic instruments.
We'll work with different wind sound systems, especially whistles, exploring how they work, construction techniques and acoustic possibilities.
02 / Day 02 · Kiln and firing
Sunday 15 November. Together we'll build a temporary kiln from stacked bricks, in which the pieces made during the workshop will be fired with charcoal.
At the end, each participant can take home their instruments, now transformed into ceramics.
03 / Who teaches
Nómada Cerámica is an art project founded by Martín Gastón Merlos and Julieta Bilbao. Since 2016 they have been researching sound ceramics, ancestral technologies and creative processes linked to fire and territory. Their practice combines artistic production, teaching, research and kiln building.
With an itinerant career and more than 400 activities across the Americas and Europe, they come to Barcelona as part of their third Iberian tour. @nomadaceramica ↗
