CARMELA CALDART – CREATIVE MOVEMENT

CARMELA CALDART – CREATIVE MOVEMENT

Welcome to «Creative Movement», an initiative by La Clandestina de Poblenou dedicated to showcasing non-resident artists and their impressive work. Each month, a new artist has the opportunity to exhibit their work in our space, offering the public a unique and diverse view of contemporary art.

This month, we are delighted to present Carmela Caldart, a talented multidisciplinary artist whose work spans illustration, animation, ceramics and painting. Carmela stands out for her ability to take her creativity across multiple platforms, always keeping the coherence and distinctive style that define her.

ARTISTIC VISION:

Question: To begin, could you share with our readers your artistic vision and how you define yourself as a creator? Is there a particular message or theme you try to convey through your work?

Answer: I'm an artist working in several fields — I work with illustration, animation, ceramics and painting. I like being able to take my work to different kinds of platforms, while always keeping it coherent across the different types of work I do.

INSPIRATION AND CREATIVE PROCESS:

Question: Speaking of your creative process, where do you find inspiration for your work? Is there any ritual or routine you follow before you start creating?

Answer: For me, inspiration comes from everywhere: from my surroundings, the people around me, and also from within. I think it's a balance between the outer and inner worlds. What inspires me most is always doing new things and adapting my work to different media, because it challenges me to look at an idea in a completely different way.

FEATURED PROJECTS:

Question: Now, we'd love to know more about your most recent projects. Could you share one or two projects you've worked on and are especially proud of?

Answer: A recent project I was really excited about was the artwork for a charity event I organised with some friends from Brazil. We held an event to raise funds for the floods happening in our region in the south of Brazil, and art was a very important part of it. We made posters, T-shirts, prints and an animation to project during the event. It was a great project because I could take my work across many platforms and also use it for something so important.

CHALLENGES AND LESSONS:

Question: Throughout your career, you've surely faced challenges. Could you share a particularly challenging experience and how it influenced your artistic development?

Answer: I've always moved around a lot, and I think moving to Spain was both a challenge and a step forward in my artistic development. It was hard to start from scratch in a new country with a new language, but it also opened my mind to new ways of thinking about my work and to new possible applications and paths.

    PERSPECTIVES AND THE ART COMMUNITY:

Question: Art often reflects society and culture. How do you see your role as an artist in the community? And what do you think about the current direction of art and its impact on society?

Answer: I think art plays a very important role in culture, because as artists we are always responding to our surroundings. I believe our role as artists is to show our vision and beliefs visually, and to bring people new ways of thinking about the world. I think it's important that art becomes increasingly accessible, and that artists from minorities get more visibility.
